Jim Ross To Call Boxing Event?, Talks Rousey/WWE, Conor McGregor & Bellator 131

WWE Hall Of Famer and recent MMA announcer Jim Ross shared his thoughts on some current MMA and boxing topics in the latest edition of his weekly website blog.

The legendary broadcaster shared his thoughts on this past Saturday’s Bellator 131 event, which featured a grudge match main event between UFC Hall Of Famers Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar.

“Spike TV had to be happy with the look of their Bellator event Saturday night as they went on free tv against UFC on PPV,” said Ross. “Ortiz vs. Bonnar was what it was but the build up via the personal issue storyline was well done. Every fan of any genre or sport can relate to a personal issue ‘hook’ which is why rivalry games are generally always interesting even when h team’s records aren’t stellar.”

“Good Ole’ JR” also shared his thoughts on rising Irish MMA star “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.

“UFC’s Conor McGregor has money written all over him if he stays healthy and sane,” said Ross. “McGregor has the “it” factor that can’t be manufactured. Some will pay to see ‘The Notorious’ win while many will pay to see him get his ass whipped. It’s all about the green as in CASH. Conor is an Attitude Era guy.”

Staying on track with UFC-related items, JR also touched on the face of Women’s MMA, Rnoda Rousey, as he shared his thoughts on her upcoming fight in Los Angeles and his belief that she should be part of next year’s WrestleMania event.

“We hope to be in L.A. in 2015 to see Ronda Rousey fight,” said Ross. “UFC always treats us wonderfully and my wife and I appreciate it. Ms. Rousey is my favorite MMA fighter and if I was WWE I’d figure out a way to book her at WrestleMania 31 as I suggested right after WrestleMania 30 was over.”

Finally, the former voice of WWE programming revealed that he may soon be returning to the broadcast booth for an upcoming professional boxing event on cable television.

“Entertaining an opportunity to do another boxing event on cable in December,” said Ross. “Stay tuned. Will announce something in a day or two.”
