Joe Riggs Calls Nick Diaz A “Neanderthal,” Talks About Their Infamous Hospital Brawl

During a recent FOXSports.com interview, UFC Middleweight Joe “Diesel” Riggs spoke about his infamous hospital brawl with Nick Diaz, as well as his desire to “whoop his ass again.”

Riggs defeated Diaz via decision back at UFC 57 in 2006, however it was one of two fights the two had on that night as Diaz started a brawl with Riggs in the hospital after the show, an encounter that led to both fighters being released from the UFC.

“I never expected someone to hit me in the hospital, especially two prize fighters in the hospital like that,” said Riggs. “Even when we were jawing back and forth, it didn’t cross my mind. Then he crossed the line and we started going at it.”

Riggs also revealed during the interview that the two nearly got into it again during an airplane flight after the Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields event in June of 2009.

“Something is wrong with him,” said Riggs. “He’s like a Neanderthal. Something is off with him.”

Although Riggs holds a victory over him already, he made it clear that he feels he’s a better boxer than Diaz and has no problem proving it.

“Usually, I don’t fight people I have beaten,” Riggs said. “Nick Diaz, I’d just fight again. … I’d whoop his ass again. He’s not a smooth, polished boxer like me. He has no footwork. He’s a tough guy, he comes forward and throws a lot of punches. He has good submissions. But he’s not as good of a boxer as I am.”

Following his victory in the Bellator Fight Master reality show tournament final in November of 2013, Riggs makes his return against Ben Saunders at UFC On FOX 13 on December 13, 2014.
