Despite the fact that UFC President Dana White initially announced an immediate third fight for the UFC Welterweight Championship between Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks, those plans have apparently changed.
It was announced on Tuesday evening that due to undisclosed reasons, Hendricks will instead fight the number six ranked UFC Welterweight contender, Matt Brown at UFC 185 in March.
It is unclear at the moment as to why Hendricks will not immediately challenge Lawler for the UFC 170-pound title, past the point that Lawler has reportedly asked to take some time off.
In the meantime, Hendricks and Brown will fight to determine the potential next challenger for the title, as the number two ranked UFC Welterweight contender Rory MacDonald will battle Hector Lombard, the number five ranked contender, at UFC 186 on April 26th in another fight with possible title implications.
Hendricks vs. Brown will serve as the co-main event of UFC 185, which is headlined by Anthony Pettis vs. Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC Lightweight Championship on Saturday, March 14th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
