Following his epic battle with Chad Mendes in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 179 pay-per-view from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo made reference to what could be his next possible title contender — “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.
Although he didn’t say McGregor by name, he clearly referenced the rising Irish superstar, calling him “the joker” of the division.
“My court is full now,” Aldo said. “I am the king, Chad is the prince, and there is a joker now.”
At the UFC 179 post-fight press conference, Aldo was asked to elaborate on the aforementioned comment and while he obliged, he once again refused to reference him by name.
“He’s a guy who just talks,” Aldo said. “He hasn’t fought anyone as tough as us. So to get here right now and talk, I’ve heard that a lot. Chael Sonnen did that a lot in his weight class, and now he’s lost, so he can talk as much as he wants.”
