It was announced last week that UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo suffered an injury while training for his scheduled UFC 176 Main Event fight against Chad Mendes, forcing UFC to scrap the fight and figure out what to do with the ill-fated event.
Following Frankie Edgar’s dominant beatdown of BJ Penn at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale on Sunday night, there was immediately a lot of buzz on social media that Edgar could step up and fight Mendes in the main event. While that’s a fight a lot of fans would like to see, UFC President Dana White put that talk to rest almost immediately.
At the TUF 19 Finale post-fight press conference, White revealed that Aldo’s injury is not serious and he’s only expected to be sidelined for 45 days. It’s almost certain that Aldo vs. Mendes will still happen this fall.
