After being called a “cranky and bitter son of a b*tch” by Chael Sonnen on his “You’re Welcome” podcast this week, UFC Middleweight contender Tim Kennedy has decided to fire back.
During a recent interview with MMAFighting.com, Kennedy speculated that the reason Sonnen made these comments about him was to set the stage for a future Metamoris grappling match between the two.
“First, Chael is wrong and I could care less,” said Kennedy. “Chael wanted to bring it up again, which is fine. My first assumption is that he’s trying to promote a match with me at Metamoris, which is a horrible decision because I’ll destroy him every which way.
Kennedy continued, “I think it’s hilarious. Every time I’ve ever met with him we’ve been cordial. It just seems totally out of the blue. For me, it’s just considering the source. He’s a multi-drug test failing, PED user felon so do I really care what he says? I really don’t care, but if he’s trying to promote a match for himself I’m absolutely down and I’ll make fun of him the whole time … then I’ll choke him out.”
If that wasn’t colorful enough, Kennedy went into super-entertainment mode when describing how a potential Metamoris match with Sonnen should be set up.
“I’d feel bad,” said Kennedy. “Maybe he could start in a dominant position or something. We could talk about the rules later. Start with him on my back with hooks in or something. Something that makes it fair. Maybe I’ll wear an American flag gi and he’ll wear a jumpsuit. Which is fitting.”
While he isn’t sure if he’s coming back to MMA or not, Kennedy made it clear that he loves the idea of competing with Sonnen on the grappling mats.
“I don’t know when I’m going to come back to MMA, or if I’m going to come back. Chael is definitely a step in the right direction. That I would enjoy. Unless Josh Barnett is down for something because that would be fun, too.”
Never one to back down from a war of words, Sonnen was quick to respond via social media, pointing out that he felt Kennedy was a bit long-winded in his response, and simply offered to get into the paper work portion of the process.
“Can someone give me the bullet points to that novel,” questioned Sonnen on Twitter. “[I] Stopped caring at ‘Tim Kennedy said.'”
Sonnen concluded by telling Kennedy to call Metamoris promoter Ralek Gracie and sign the dotted line.
“Call Ralek [Gracie], he’ll send you my open contract.”
