Macy Chiasson Wonders If Ladd Chose Her For An Easy Comeback Fight

Macy Chiasson is relishing the challenge of being an underdog against Aspen Ladd and is ready to earn the biggest win of her career.

Chiasson and Ladd are expected to face off this Saturday at UFC Vegas 32 in the women’s bantamweight division. The two are set to kick off the co-main event in what is expected to be an exciting fight. The event is set to take place at the UFC APEX.

During media day, Chiasson expressed her surprise in fighting against a big name like Ladd and questioned whether Ladd’s team were looking at her as an easy layup fight.

“Originally they had asked for the fight, and I was kind of like, ‘What?’” Chiasson said. “Like, ah, shouldn’t you be focused on a title fight right now, you know? So I was a little surprised by it, but I figured it’s because she’s been out for a while and they think they’re going to get like a decent or easy comeback fight – but I don’t know if that’s the case.”

Whatever the case may be, Chiasson is coming in as an underdog according to the betting lines, an indication on how the general public feel the bout is going to play out. However, the 29-year-old is ready to flip the script as she revels in being the underdog.

“Yeah, maybe I’ve got a little bit of a chip on my shoulder because I do despise when people think that, you know, ‘She’s an underdog,’ like, ‘This is this is going to be an easy fight for us,’ but I live off that sh-t,” Chiasson said. ‘I eat that sh-t up.”

Currently the #10-ranked women’s bantamweight, Chiasson (7-1) has won five of her six UFC fights with wins over Shanna Young and most recently against Marion Reneau back in March. She joined the UFC promotion after winning the The Ultimate Fighter 28 Women’s Featherweight Tournament back in 2018 when she defeated Pannie Kianzad by an impressive rear-naked choke.

Standing across the cage from her, Ladd (9-1) is currently the #3-ranked women’s bantamweight. Ladd has not fought since December 2019 when she TKO’d Yana Kunitskaya. This will be her first fight in a year-and-a-half against the dangerously surging Chiasson after suffering a torn ACL and MCL. After her surgery, Ladd detailed how she had to re-learn how to walk and punch properly.

Ladd’s only loss was against the former women’s UFC featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie back in July 2019. Prior to the loss, Ladd’s wins came against the likes of Lina Länsberg, Tonya Evinger and Sijara Eubanks. The 26-year-old will be eager to get back in the cage with a win after a long layoff.

Who do you think will have the edge between Aspen Ladd and Macy Chiasson in this exciting women’s bantamweight co-main event this Saturday?
