Conor McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos were just involved in an altercation of sorts backstage at the UFC 264 weigh-ins.
As the entire sports world is well aware, UFC 264 will take place tomorrow night and will be headlined by the trilogy bout between Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier and “The Notorious” Conor McGregor. One particular party who is more than aware of this looming showdown is one Rafael dos Anjos.
Rafael dos Anjos has been lobbying to fight Conor McGregor for years, ever since he lost out on a “red panty night” in what was supposed to be the UFC 196 main event in 2016. Instead, Nate Diaz stepped in on short notice to surprise the world, but not himself, by upsetting McGregor and altering UFC history forever.
Ironically, today it was dos Anjos who was prepared to step in on short notice to fight McGregor if need be had Poirier been unable to compete following weigh-ins. The former lightweight champion officially tipped the scale and hit the mark at 156 lbs.
Both Poirier and McGregor also made weight, so dos Anjos’ services for UFC 264 will not be required. Nevertheless, while McGregor and dos Anjos will still not actualize their fight five years after it was originally booked, they did cross paths in an unofficial capacity backstage, and dos Anjos did not sound too pleased about their encounter.
“Conor, you’re such a snake, sneaking from behind and playing tough. Soon (sic) or later, we will finish business. I’m not like the guys you play around with,” dos Anjos tweeted.
ESPN reporter Marc Raimondi provided some additional context, revealing that McGregor and dos Anjos were involved in a verbal altercation backstage, which is what prompted the dos Anjos tweet.
A clip of the altercation could later be found on an episode of UFC 264: Embedded. You can view the exchange below.
