Conor McGregor is set to face Dustin Poirier this Saturday, but the superstar is already looking beyond and eying potential lucrative ventures.
At the UFC 264 pay-per-view inside a packed T-Mobile Arena, McGregor believes once he’s done with the Louisiana native that he will snatch the lightweight title in December or around Christmas time. “Mystic Mac'” is not only predicting that the title will be fought for by then but insists he has his sights set on the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to sell out.
“I’m already thinking that Allegiant Stadium is where we’re headin’, I feel maybe Christmas time, December. McGregor told TheMacLife. I don’t know. We’ll talk afterwards. I don’t know. We’ll talk afterwards. But that world title will be contested in the Allegiant Stadium here in Las Vegas, I would imagine so. I like the look of it. It’s called a “Death Star” as well, and that’s what I’m feeling like right now, a death star.”
Ahead of his rubber match with Poirier, McGregor has lofty goals but looks focused heading into this de facto title eliminator bout. Oddly enough, the number ’12’ continues to appear throughout McGregor’s life, from his whiskey company to pondering the possibility of being the 12th UFC lightweight champion.
“I’ll be the 12th lightweight title holder, and this is my 12th UFC main event this Saturday, and I’m aiming for my 20th mixed-martial-arts knockout.” McGregor said.
With the possibility of Conor McGregor being distracted, one has to take into account the claims he made that the majority of his last camp for Poirier was “85 percent” boxing preparation for Manny Pacquiao. McGregor is now looking ahead, but it’s not uncommon for the Irishman to call his shot before it happens.
Poirier and McGregor will meet in a five-round non-title, main event at UFC 264 pay-per-view this Saturday broadcasted on ESPN+.
