Miranda Maverick Sets Her Sights On Both Shevchenko Sisters

After turning in a stellar performance against Gillian Robertson at UFC 260, it appears Miranda Maverick has her eyes set on the Shevchenko sisters.

Featured on the main card of the giant UFC 260 Ngannou vs. Miocic II event, Miranda Maverick seized the opportunity in her debut performance and earned a dominant unanimous decision victory over a UFC staple. After the bout concluded, it was clear that the flyweight division has a very skilled 23-year old fighter on their hands.

Miranda Maverick Targets Shevchenko Sisters Down The Line

While the flyweight acknowledges her young age, she doesn’t believe it to be an appropriate excuse when it comes to executing skills inside the cage. Initially, at the UFC 260 post-fight press conference, many believed Miranda Maverick was already targeting the champion of the division, but that turned out not to be the case. In fact, the American grappler has her eyes set on her sister–Antonina Shevchenko.

“I’ve said in a couple of other interviews earlier that Valentina Shevchenko is the one that everybody is trying to get to. Miranda Maverick said to reporters at the UFC 260 post-fight press conference. I got criticized the first time that I had my debut with the UFC. They were like, ‘Already calling out the champ?” I was like, no I didn’t. I said within two years I want to be able to fight Valentina for that title. I’m still of that mindset, and I’d like to beat her sister (Antonina Shevchenko) first.”

While the prospect on a seven-fight win streak admits she intends to fight the champion, Maverick sees the UFC landscape realistically and understands the fight will potentially materialize down the road. In the meantime, it seems Maverick is ready to compete with the champion’s sister, (Antonina) Shevchenko. First, before that fight can come together, Shevchenko has a fight lined up with Andrea Lee in May at the UFC 262: Oliveira vs. Chandler pay-per-view card. Certainly if the kickboxer prevails against Lee, Miranda Maverick will be in heavy pursuit of Shevchenko.
