Fans who were optimistic that MMA would finally become a legally sanctioned sport in the state of New York apparently got their hopes up for no reason once again.
Despite high hopes of finally receiving the good news MMA fans in New York have been waiting for, a bill to legalize MMA in New York is expected to die before reaching a vote in the state’s assembly on Thursday.
“My big challenge today is that a number of members who are counted as supporters were just unavailable today because of the scheduling, that we weren’t expected to be here this long,” Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Morelle, the bill’s sponsor, told Gannett’s Albany Bureau (via Politics on the Hudson).
Never shy to speak out on controversial subjects, UFC President Dana White immediately took to social media to voice his displeasure — to say the least — with today’s news.
