Ronda Rousey Says There Have Been Times She Thought She Would Die During Fights

During an appearance on “Jim Rome On Showtime,” UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey spoke about her inability to accept defeat, recalling losses she has dealt with prior to her career in mixed-martial-arts.

In a press release issued by Showtime to promote the show, which aired on Tuesday night, Rousey recalled times during fights where she thought she was going to die.

“There have been times during a fight when I thought I was going to die,” Rousey said. “I thought to myself, ‘I would rather break my neck than lose this fight.'”

Rousey appeared on the show, which also featured NFL greats Eddie George and Michael Irvin, as well as NBA veteran Brian Scalabrine.

The UFC Women’s Bantamweight champ continued, explaining that while she’s undefeated in her professional MMA career, she has experienced defeat in the past.

“It’s not that I’ve never lost; it’s that I’ve lost at the worst times, so I know what a loss is,” Rousey said. “That’s why I want to win so much more than these other girls.”

“Rowdy” Ronda continued, “I know that I would rather physically die than die inside from losing a fight. I remember every single loss of my career, but have forgotten so many of my victories.”

Ronda Rousey is rumored to defend her UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship against top-ranked contender Cat Zingano in early 2015.
