Stipe Miocic doesn’t care that Jon Jones will be awaiting the winner of his title fight rematch against Francis Ngannou.
In the main event of UFC 260, Miocic is set to fight Ngannou three years after Miocic dominated the first fight at UFC 220. The first time around, Ngannou admitted he wasn’t ready for the shot and he was outwrestled for five rounds and gassed out early in the fight, too.
However, in the rematch, the fight is much different. Ngannou appears to be more mature and Miocic has gotten older and many pundits are questioning his chin. Despite the fact a big fight in Jones awaits him should he win, the heavyweight champ couldn’t care any less about the former light heavyweight champion.
“Right now all I’m worried about is the fight coming up with Francis,” Miocic told MMA Fighting. “That’s all I care about. I’m not going to worry about Jon Jones until I take care of business.”
If Miocic defeats Ngannou on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 260, the Jones fight would be next. It would be a massive fight in terms of pay, but if he beats “Bones” it would cement his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all-time. However, until Jones is standing across to the Ocatgon from him, he isn’t worried about him.
“No question [Jon Jones is a big fight for my legacy], definitely but all I’m worried about is Francis,” Miocic said. “That’s all I care about. The task at hand right now. He’s the only one.”
Stipe Miocic enters his UFC 260 fight coming off the trilogy with Daniel Cormier. After being knocked out by “DC” at UFC 226 – the fight after the first Ngannou bout – he earned a TKO win and a decision to reclaim and defend his heavyweight title.
Who do you think would win, Stipe Miocic or Jon Jones?
