UFC 237 Results: Andrade Slams Namajunas To Win Title

Tonight (Sat. May 11, 2019) UFC 237 took place live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The world’s leading fight promotion compiled an excellent card for Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) fans. In the main event, UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas defended her title against Jessica Andrade.

Also, in the co-main event, former UFC middleweight king Anderson “The Spider” Silva made his return. He faced rising middleweight prospect Jarred Cannonier. Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo also returned to face the impressive Alexander Volkanovski.

Main Card:

  • Rose Namajunas vs. Jessica Andrade

Round 1:

Namajunas is sticking and moving all over Andrade, landing some hard shots. Andrade’s eye is already busted open bloody. The champion’s striking is so much more advanced, and it’s showing. Andrade defends a takedown with a Kimura, and after Andrade gets the takedown, Namajunas defends nicely with an armbar.

Namajunas drops Andrade with a knee, and takes top position on the ground. Andrade is able to get to her feet. Andrade and Najamunas now exchanging shots inside the pocket. Andrade goes in on a takedown but the horn goes off to end the round.

Round 2:

Nice striking from Namajunas top open the round. Very nice accuracy from Namajunas. Andrade lands a nice lead hook. More pressure from Andrade, but Namajunas is able to weather the storm. Andrade presses forward again and has Namajunas against the cage. Andrade slams Namajunas right on her head as she was defending with a kimura. Namajunas is out cold. That’s it.

  • Jared Cannonier vs. Anderson Silva

Round 1:

A very patient early approach from both men to open up the round. Cannonier just missed on an overhand. A beautiful leg kick from Cannonier, but Silva responds with a hard body shot of his own. Cannonier has Silva against the cage, but Silva lands some nice elbows. As they separate, Cannonier lands a big right hand. Cannonier lands a big leg kick on Silva, and Silva falls down. Silva is injured, and the referee calls the fight off. That’s it.
