UFC Champ Dillashaw Undergoes Elbow Surgery, Title Defense Against Cruz Still On

UFC Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw underwent surgery on his left elbow on Friday, an operation that was considered to be a success.

Dillashaw was suffering from bursitis, which is swelling and irritation of a bursa, a fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion between muscles, tendons and joints.

Dillashaw told the folks at MMA Fighting on Friday that he had “swelling from elbowing Joe Soto [in his title defense at UFC 177 in August],” that he “drained multiple times, but it just kept coming back.”

The UFC 135-pound champion described the operation as “minor,” and noted that he will have to wear a splint for three weeks. Recovery time is set to last for approximately three-to-fix weeks at best.

Dillashaw is set to make the next defense of his UFC Bantamweight Championship against former champ Dominick Cruz in February or March of 2015 and the aforementioned injury and subsequent surgery is not expected to delay those plans.
