UFC, acting as its’ own commission for the UFC Fight Night 48 event in Macau, China, relieved a judge of his duties in the middle of the show on Saturday.
Though no names were given, UFC President Dana White confirmed during the post-fight press conference after the event that one of the judges involved in the first two preliminary bouts on the show was removed from the judging table in the middle of the show.
“Did you ask me sir, if it was true, that a judge was removed?” White said at the post-fight press conference. “Yes, he was. He was involved in the first fight and the second fight. I told the guys to go let him grab some beer and some popcorn and go sit down and start watching some fights, not judging them.”
Gareth Harriman was the judge who scored the first prelim in favor of Elizabeth Phillips, who ended up losing to Milana Dudieva in the opening bout of the show. Howard Hughes, who was one of the three judges who scored the main event between Michael Bisping and Cung Le, was the only judge to have been assigned to the first two preliminary bouts as well.
