UFC San Antonio Results: Edwards Decisions Dos Anjos

UFC San Antonio went down tonight (Sat. July 20, 2019) from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy. It’s headlined by a meeting between Rafael dos Anjos and Leon Edwards.

Also, Aleksei Oleinik vs. Walt Harris also took place on the card. It’s certain to have a great night of fights. Check out MMA News’ UFC San Antonio results below:

Main Card

Welterweight bout: Rafael dos Anjos vs. Leon Edwards

Round 1: Edwards with the takedown a minute in, lands in Dos Anjos’ guard near the fence. Edwards looking for an arm triangle for a moment, but RDA defends it well. RDA is able to make it to his feet. Edwards keeps his back for a moment then they disengage. They go back to striking with RDA landing a right hook to the body. 

Round 2: RDA was pressing forward and landing some solid leg kicks. Edwards backing up a lot again early, looking to bait the counter. Dos Anjos, bleeding pretty badly around the right eye. Edwards was landing solid shots when RDA came in for leg kicks. Another low kick sweeps Edwards off his feet and RDA lands on top. Dos Anjos is in Edwards’ half guard, but Edwards stands. The doctor checked the nasty cut over the right eye of RDA. 

Round 3: RDA drops for a takedown, but Edwards defends and they reset. Edwards clinched with him up against the fence while landing some decent knee strikes. The fans were booing this as they didn’t want to see it. 

Round 4: Edwards dominated the round with striking then avoided a flying knee by RDA that saw him fall to the ground late in the round. Edwards got on top and was passing his guard with ease to half. RDA scrambled back to his feet but Edwards rotated and got back into the clinch. 

Round 5: RDA was staying aggressive and trying to look for a finish but it was too late as Edwards did a nice job of avoiding any big shot. He stayed light on his feet while trying to avoid these strikes. RDA crashing forward with combos, but not landing clean. Hard elbow inside from Edwards. 

Official Result: Leon Edwards def. Rafael Dos Anjos by unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46)

Heavyweight bout: Walt Harris def. Aleksei Oleinik by knockout (strikes) at :12 of Round 1

Heavyweight bout: Greg Hardy def. Juan Adams by TKO (punches) at :25 of Round 1

Lightweight bout: Dan Hooker def. James Vick by knockout (punches) at 2:33 of Round 1

Lightweight bout: Alexander Hernandez def. Francisco Trinaldo by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Heavyweight bout: Andrei Arlovski def. Ben Rothwell by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Preliminary Card

Featherweight bout: Alex Caceres def. Steven Peterson by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Women’s bantamweight bout: Raquel Pennington def. Irene Aldana by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Light heavyweight bout: Klidson Abreu def. Sam Alvey by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Women’s flyweight bout: Jennifer Maia def. Roxanne Modafferi via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Bantamweight bout: Ray Borg def. Gabriel Silva by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Bantamweight bout: Mario Bautista def. Jinsoo Son by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Bantamweight bout: Felipe Colares def. Domingo Pilarte by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
