Urijah Faber has reportedly signed a bout agreement for his next Octagon appearance. Despite initial rumors of a Faber vs. Kid Yamamoto match in Japan, “The California Kid” will instead fight Masanori Kanehara at the UFC Fight Night 52 event, which takes place in Saitama.
Kanehara (23-11-5) is 6-1 in his last seven fights, however is not ranked anywhere in the top 15 of his division. The only loss in his last seven bouts was in his last fight against Toshiaki Kitada in April, a bout he lost via disqualification for throwing Kitada out of the ring.
Faber (31-7) is ranked number two in the world at Bantamweight and is 5-1 in his last six Octagon appearances, with the lone defeat being his second fight with Renan Barao in February, a fight he lost via TKO in the first round. Faber’s last UFC appearance saw him return to the win column with a third round submission victory over Ultimate Fighter veteran Alex Caceres.
UFC Fight Night 52 takes place on September 20, 2014 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan and will air exclusively on UFC Fight Pass. Also announced for the show thus far is a main event of Mark Hunt vs. Roy Nelson, Miesha Tate vs. Rin Nakai, Takanori Gomi vs. Myles Jury and Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Kyle Noke.
