VIDEO: CM Punk, Duke Roufus Talk His MMA Training Progress, When He’ll Fight, His Weight

Former WWE Superstar and the newest addition to the active UFC roster joined hosts Kenny Rice and Bas Rutten on this week’s edition of “Inside MMA” on AXS TV to discuss the latest developments in his preparation from the squared circle to the eight-sided Octagon.

During the show, which Punk appeared on via satellite, the new UFC Middleweight prospect noted that he is approximately six months away from talking with UFC officials about setting up his first official MMA fight, which he said he expects to take place during the end of 2015.

“In about six months, we might entertain who I might fight,” Punk said, mentioning that he has to drop a significant amount of weight before fully being able to develop the necessary skills that it takes to compete at the high-level of competition available to him in the UFC.

Punk also reiterated the fact that when he does compete inside the world-famous Octagon, he plans to do so in the UFC Middleweight (185-pound) division. He mentioned that when he was first approached by the UFC about transitioning to the MMA fighting arena, he was weighing approximately 220 pounds.

On that subject, Punk noted, “The weight just keeps coming off.”

According to Duke Roufus, Punk’s head trainer at his official MMA training team — Roufusport — which is based out of Milwaukee, a town close to Chicago, where Punk currently resides, his biggest strength thus far is his ability to soak up training information and techniques “like a sponge.”

“He’s trained, but he doesn’t have fight ideas and concepts yet,” said Roufus.
