Saturday, January 24, 2015 was a rough day at the office for UFC Light Heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson.
The Swedish MMA star was TKO’d by Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC On FOX 14, which took place in front of nearly 30,000 fans at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.
The fight was designed to give Gustafsson one final high-profile victory before his highly anticipated rematch against UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, however “Rumble” Johnson had different plans.
In the video above, you can see an emotional Gustafsson break down in the Octagon following his devastating defeat to Johnson.
“It’s just a lot of pain,” Gustafsson said at the UFC On FOX 14 post-fight press conference. “I not only lost my fight, I lost my fight in front of 30,000 fans, so that’s a tough thing to deal with, and it still is. But whatever hurts you, gets you stronger.”
Due to the loss, Gustafsson will be forced to climb his way back up the ladder to earn a shot at Jones, as the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion will now meet Anthony Johnson later this year for his next title defense.
