UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently analyzed the main event fight between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz in a new UFC 183 preview video.
“Nick Diaz talks so much trash,” says Rogan in the video, which you can watch in full above. “He is so aggressive and disrespectful to his opponents inside the Octagon.”
Rogan elaborated on Diaz’s pre-fight smack talk, pointing out that he not only talks the talk, but walks the walk, as he backs up his words once the cage door shuts.
“Nick Diaz has the kind of trash talking that makes you re-think your life, and make no mistake about it, he backs up that act with elite skills. At his best, he is a smothering opponent. He’s got outstanding hands and he’s got a very difficult style to prepare for.”
While Rogan admits Diaz has a difficult style for any fighter to deal with, he is quick to remind fans that “The Spider” is in a league of his own.
“But you wanna talk about the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the history of the sport? One man comes to mind …that’s Anderson Silva,” said Rogan. “Anderson Silva is in a class of his own. He really is, unquestionably, the greatest fighter the sport has ever seen.”
Rogan continued, questioning whether or not Silva’s recent back-to-back losses and freak leg injury will affect his performance inside the Octagon when he meets Diaz in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 183 pay-per-view event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“However, he’s coming off two loses and he got his leg broken in a freak accident. We don’t know what Anderson Silva’s mindset is going to be like when he steps into the Octagon. That’s what makes this fight with Nick Diaz so intriguing.”
The Silva-Diaz bout is intriguing for a number of reasons, particularly when it comes to Silva, as Rogan points out an impressive victory over Diaz could propel Silva back into the title picture, and could potentially warrant a third match with current UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman.
“And it’s a very important fight, because if Anderson Silva shows the championship form that he had when he was dominating great fighters, people are gonna wanna see another fight with Chris Weidman. This is an absolutely amazing match-up, and I have a feeling that when that door shuts, the referee looks at Anderson Silva and looks at Nick Diaz, it’s gonna be an intense fight for the ages.”
