Video: Royce Gracie Doesn’t Approve Of Diaz Suspension, Blames NAC For Ruining His Career

Royce Gracie was on hand at the Bellator Fan Fest this weekend to promote the first ever Bellator & Glory “Dynamite!” event. While in San Jose this weekend, MMANews.com caught up with the UFC Hall Of Famer to get his take on the ongoing controversy surrounding Cesar Gracie pupil Nick Diaz.

“I don’t agree with drugs at all, but for him it’s not just recreation for the fun of it, getting higher. For him, the guy has got to calm himself down,” said the pioneer of the UFC. “I understand that. He doesnt endorse that. I’ve never heard him say, ‘Go ahead and smoke, it’s good for you.'”

Gracie continued, “It’s different than some people that endorse this stuff. He doesn’t endorse it at all. It was harsh, yes, comparing [marijuana] to steroids or cocaine. Cocaine? I’d rather fight someone that’s high on pot than cocaine any given day.”

“So, the commission has to go back and re-evaluate that punishment. Whats going on? We’ll see. I dont know why they give five years, where they got the five years from, but i heard Nick Diaz passed two tests and failed one. So they threw away the two that he passed? And stuck on the one he failed? It’s not consistent. The whole thing is sketchy right there to me. Why didn’t they hang on to the other two? It’s two against one, come on.”

Gracie concluded, “It was a little too much. You just finished a guys career.”

Royce Gracie also spoke about a number of additional topics, all of which you can check out by watching the MMANews.com exclusive video interview with the MMA legend above, or by checking out our official MMANews.com YouTube channel.

Bellator: Dynamite! takes place live tonight from the SAP Center in San Jose, California, airing live and free on Spike TV with a combination of Bellator MMA bouts and Glory kickboxing bouts, as well as a one-night light heavyweight tournament.
