On Tuesday afternoon, UFC held the official pre-fight press conference for their next pay-per-view event, UFC 221: Rockhold vs. Romero.
Featuring former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold and current number one ranked 185-pound contender Yoel Romero, the pre-fight press conference for this Saturday’s pay-per-view took place in Perth, Western Australia.
Also included in the press conference, which you can watch below in its’ entirety, are heavyweight contenders Mark Hunt (No. 5) and Curtis Blaydes (No. 9). Hunt vs. Blaydes will serve as the co-main event of the main PPV card this weekend.
During the press conference, Rockhold spoke about the late-notice change in opponent from Robert Whitaker to Yoel Romero.
“[It’s only a] slight difference but this was bound to happen one way or the other,” said Rockhold. “Whittaker would have been first, Yoel would’ve been second. Yoel’s first, so Whittaker will be second. I’m up for the task. I’m not lacking in any way.”
Rockhold continued, “I’m prepared to fight the best guys in the world. It’s a shame it’s not gonna be for the undisputed title but Whittaker beat Yoel to be the interim champion. I’m gonna beat Yoel to be the interim champion. It’s a matter of who did it better is gonna be the real champion at the end of this thing. So that’s the way I see it.”
UFC 221: Rockhold vs. Romero goes down on February 11, 2018 from the Perth Arena in Perth, Australia, airing live via pay-per-view. Join us here on 2/11 for live round-by-round results coverage of the event.
