UFC co-owner Frank Fertitta had a strange reaction during the abrupt closing seconds of the featherweight title fight between Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
An eagle-eyed fan spotted Fertitta’s reaction when re-watching a video of the fight. In the background of one of the slow motion replays of the knockout, Fertitta seemed angry and was seen raising the UFC title belt above his head and subsequently slamming it down on the table in front of him. While Fertitta likely could have just been caught up in the excitement, the footage has brought out all the conspiracy theorists in the MMA community. One theory that became popular on Reddit after the footage surfaced is that McGregor’s recent contractual demands have caused tension between him and the UFC.
“Let’s compare contracts because nine figures is what I’m talking now that’s 100 million plus,” McGregor said in October. “No one in the game has done that, it will be in the nine-figure mark. I told (the UFC) that no ones got the draw I have, and I fully expect that nine-figure contract.”
Another theory on the web is that Fertitta simply lost a wager on the fight to his brother Lorenzo, who co-owns the company with him.
