Urijah Faber Targets UFC Card in Sacramento for Return from Retirement

UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber is ready to fight again and he’s hoping that a slot on the upcoming card in his hometown of Sacramento will be available to him.

No one in mixed martial arts ever seems to stay retired and UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber is the latest example as he plots his return to action later this year.

“The California Kid” called it a career back in 2016 after pre-emptively announcing that his fight against Brad Pickett in his hometown of Sacramento would be his last.

The following year, Faber was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame after a long career fighting in both the UFC and the WEC.

Earlier this year, Faber then hinted that a comeback could be on the horizon after allowing his body to heal with the time off as well as feeling invigorated with the birth of his first child.

Now on the day of his 40th birthday, Faber is ready to stage his comeback with hopes that he can fight at the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in his backyard of Sacramento on July 13.

“I know my baby is keeping me young but a good ole fist fight could help the cause,” Faber wrote on Instagram. “UFC Sacramento on the horizon. UFC, 145 [pounds] or 135 [pounds] and who would be fun?”

Faber was one of the biggest names in the lighter weight divisions when he was still actively competing so it’s likely there will be a string of potential opponents willing to face him in his hometown in July.

When he retired, Faber had gone 2-2 in his past four fights and he ended his career off a unanimous decision win.

Healthy, happy and ready to fight again, Faber hopes to add to his legacy with a return to the Octagon later this year.
