Former World Series of Fighting Welterweight Champion Steve Carl announced via Twitter today that he has been granted a release from the promotion.
I secured my release from WSOF today! Sucks it had to come to this, but time to take a step forward and leave it behind me. #Determined #MMA

Carl put together a 3-1 record with the promotion, capturing the WSOF 170-pound title with a fourth-round submission victory over Josh Burkman, before losing it to Rousimar Palhares in his first title defense.
Prior to his release, Carl had been complaining publicly about his inability to fight consistently with the promotion, as he was only able to secure three fights in the past two years.
3 fights in the last 2 years…@MMAWorldSeries apparently you think being a pro fighter should only be a part time gig #FML #ShootMeNow
