Despite attempts from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to stop him, Chael Sonnen competed as planned at the Metamoris 4 event on Saturday, losing in the show’s main event to grappling phenom Andre Galvao.
The two battled back-and-forth on the mats for over ten minutes before Galvao was able to submit Sonnen with a rear naked choke.
“They tested me, they cleared me, they hired me, they fired me, they drug me through the mud and I’m still the toughest S.O.B. on two feet,” Sonnen said after the match.
In the co-main event of the evening, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett managed to submit Dean Lister with only ten seconds remaining in their match.
Barnett was able to catch Lister in a head-and-arm scarf hold, forcing him to tap for the first time in 16 years.
