UFC 256 went down tonight (Sat. December 12, 2020) from the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy.
It was headlined by a meeting between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno in a flyweight title bout.
The co-headliner saw a lightweight bout between Tony Ferguson and Charles Oliveira. Kevin Holland vs. Ronaldo Souza, Mackenzie Dern vs. Virna Jandiroba, and Junior dos Santos vs. Ciryl Gane finished out the main card.
Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno
They clinched up against the fence. Moreno got a takedown, but Figueiredo scrambled back to his feet. Figueiredo was loading up on his shots, but Moreno was tagging him. Moreno slipped with a head kick, but got back to his feet. Later on in round one, Moreno tagged him with a head kick, but Figueiredo answered with one of his own. The second round saw Figueiredo connect with a flurry of a combo. Moreno got a takedown in the second round, but the champion poked him in the eye. Moreno stunned him a few times while bleeding from his mouth. Just as Figueiredo tagged him, Moreno scored a takedown yet Figueiredo got back to his feet. Both guys tagged each other in the third round. Figueiredo started to unleash on the body and hunted him down. Moreno got kicked in the nuts badly in the third round and a point was taken away from Figueiredo. Figueiredo got a takedown yet Moreno made his way back to his feet. Moreno started to let his hands go even more and was setting things up by working over the body. Figueiredo landed a right hand yet Moreno took him down. Figueiredo got to his feet and landed some nasty uppercuts. Moreno stunned Figueiredo and they then transitioned into a wild exchange. The fifth round saw Figueiredo riffle off several kicks to the body. In the end, the judges ruled it a majority draw so Figueiredo retained the title.
Tony Ferguson vs. Charles Oliveira
Oliveira landed a nice head kick, but Tony fired back with a combo. Oliveira was very aggressive early. Oliveira got a slam takedown then went straight into side control. Oliveira moved to full mount where he landed some elbow strikes. Oliveira went for an armbar and hyper extended it, but Tony never tapped. Ferguson’s left arm was clearly injured as he didn’t throw any shots with it. The second round featured Oliveira taking him down right away, but did get sliced open by an elbow and was bleeding from his eyebrow. Oliveira was stacking Ferguson up against the fence. The third round saw Oliveira take Ferguson down again and dominate him even further with strikes from top position. Oliveira got the decision win.
Kevin Holland vs. Ronaldo Souza
Souza scored a takedown within seconds of the first round starting. Souza got in full guard and Holland started raining down elbow strikes. Holland got back to his feet and landed more elbow strikes. Souza scored another takedown, but he was up and Holland rocked him off his back then just poured it on.
Mackenzie Dern vs. Virna Jandiroba
They had a feeling out process early. Dern worked for a single leg takedown, but they just clinched up the fence. Dern landed a nice knee, but Jandiroba was constantly moving. Dern started to load up on her shots. The second round saw Dern continue to look for the takedown, but they clinched and Jandiroba landed some good knee strikes. There was a pause for Jandiroba getting poked in the eye. When they resumed, both fighters were throwing wild shots then Jandiroba got a takedown. Dern was heavily bleeding from a cut on her nose. In the third round, Dern rocked her then went for a single leg. However, Jandiroba countered and tossed her to the ground. They exchanged to the bell with the judges giving the win to Dern.
Junior dos Santos vs. Ciryl Gane
Gane went for an early guillotine choke attempt, but let go of it. Towards the end of the first round, JDS started throwing for the fences and landed some hard shots. JDS was mixing up his range and strikes nicely. Gane wasn’t a stationary target at all, but rather bouncing and moving around nicely. Gane clinched with him briefly in the middle of the second round. Gane stunned JDS with a jab then landed a thunderous elbow before JDS went down and Gane followed up with strikes on the ground.
