UFC 257 went down tonight (Sat. January 23, 2021) from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy. 

It was headlined by a meeting between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor in a lightweight bout. 

The co-headliner saw a bout between Michael Chandler and Dan Hooker. Joanne Calderwood vs. Jessica Eye, Makhmud Muradov vs. Andrew Sanchez, and Amanda Ribas vs. Marina Rodriguez finished out the main card.

Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor

McGregor was aggressive right out of the gate while Dustin was throwing leg kicks. Poirier got a trip takedown within 40 seconds of the fight starting. McGregor got his back up against the fence and gets up. McGregor clinched with him then landed a shoulder strike. They traded knee strikes. McGregor hit an elbow strike as they separated with under two minutes to go. McGregor popped him with a good shot moments later. 

Michael Chandler vs. Dan Hooker

There was a feeling out process early in this fight. Chandler was throwing leaping strikes to the body and head. Hooker continued to connect with calf kicks. Chandler dropped him with a big right hand then followed up with strikes on the ground for the win. 

Joanne Calderwood vs. Jessica Eye

They went straight to the clinch to start off the fight. This is where they traded punches up against the fence. Eye was on the outside while landing punches while Calderwood was landing knee strikes. Calderwood had a notable advantage on the outside while also landing some big shots. The eye socket of Jessica on the left side had some notable swelling. Calderwood got a brief takedown, but decided to get back to her feet. Eye was landing when she threw strikes, but wasn’t doing the same amount of damage. The second round ended with Calderwood missing a spinning back fist and getting taken down. The third round was mostly fighting in the clinch. Calderwood got the decision win. 

Makhmud Muradov vs. Andrew Sanchez 

Sanchez went in for a takedown with over a minute into the round, but Muradov shut it down and tagged him with a hook. The rest of the round saw Muradov out strike him. Throughout the second round, they exchanged streaks. Muradov was back peddling then leaping into land. Sanchez picked things up in this round, but had some damage displayed on his face with a cut on the bridge of his nose. The final round saw the finish as Muradov landed a big overhand right that whoppled him then connected with a flying knee strike and followed up with some strikes for the finish. 

Amanda Ribas vs. Marina Rodriguez

Marina over extended with her strikes, which allowed Ribas to come in and get the takedown. Ribas worked her over with strikes from full guard. The second round saw Rodriguez come out and drop Ribas. Rodriguez poured on the strikes, but when Herb Dean stepped in, Rodriguez thought the fight was over, but Dean never waved it. Second later, Rodriguez stunned her with more strikes and finally the fight was stopped.
