UFC Auckland went down tonight (Sat. February 22, 2020) from the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy.
It was headlined by a meeting between Paul Felder and Dan Hooker in a lightweight bout to see who can move up the rankings.
The co-headliner sawJimmy Crute vs. Michael Oleksiejczuk in a light heavyweight bout.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Yan Xiaonan in a women’s strawweight bout, a heavyweight bout with Ben Sosoli vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima, a lightweight showdown featuring Magomed Mustafaev vs. Brad Riddell, and Kevin Aguilar vs. Zubaira Tukhugov in a featherweight contest rounded out the main card.
Paul Felder vs. Dan Hooker
This was a striking match. Felder’s right eye was swollen shut in the early going. Starting in the second round, Felder started to increase his pace and pushed forward. Hooker busted him up as the fight went on and actually had a higher landing rate when it came to his striking. As the fight went on, Felder started to light up hooker with some heavy shots while Hooker was trying to mix up his strikes and kicks. Felder rocked him in the fourth round that led to Hooker trying to get the takedown but couldn’t. In the final round, Hooker once again went for a takedown but Felder showed his defense until the final minute where he got it. Hooker picked up the split decision win.
Jimmy Crute vs. Michael Oleksiejczuk
Crute was able to score a few takedowns before getting side control and locked in the kimura submission for the win.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Yan Xiaonan
The first round with a takedown fest with both fighters looking to take the fight there. Karolina had some sort of problem with her right eye as she kept using her finger to whip at it. The doctor checked on it in between rounds. Yan was lighting her up in the striking department. In the later rounds, Yan continued her dominance and even scored a takedown in the third round where Karolina teased a heel lock but Yan got out of it. Yan got the decision win.
Ben Sosoli vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima
The fight didn’t last long as it went 1:28 with Lima face planting Ben with a right hook.
Magomed Mustafaev vs. Brad Riddell
Riddell stunned him early in the fight and got on top up against the fence. Mustafaev went for a heel hook but Riddell got back to his feet. They went back to striking in the second round. Towards the second and throughout the third round, Mustafaev was looking to score takedowns, which Riddell did a nice job of defending. Riddell had a big cut on his left temple. A fun fight with Riddell getting the decision win.
