UFC On ESPN 18 went down tonight (Sat. November 28, 2020) from the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy.
It was headlined by a meeting between Devin Clark and Anthony Smith in a light heavyweight bout.
Curtis Blaydes vs. Derrick Lewis was the original main event of this show, but it got nixed on Friday due to Blaydes testing positive for COVID-19. It’s been reported that this fight is being rescheduled for sometime in December. Whether that can be done remains to be seen.
The co-headliner saw a welterweight bout between Miguel Baeza and Takashi Sato. Josh Parisian vs. Parker Porter, Bill Algeo vs. Spike Carlyle, Norma Dumont vs. Ashlee Evans-Smith, and Jonathan Pearce vs. Kai Kamaka finished out the main card.
Devin Clark vs. Anthony Smith
Smith came out and scored a takedown within seconds of the first bell sounding.. Smith dragged him to the middle of the cage. Smith got an triangle off his back for the win.
Miguel Baeza vs. Takashi Sato
They had a feeling out process until Sato got kicked in the nuts. Baeza started to let his hands go after the pause in action. Things stayed the same in the second round until Baeza got a takedown and rained down some strikes while having him flattened out on the ground. Baeza locked in an arm triangle for the win.
Josh Parisian vs. Parker Porter
Heavy leather was being thrown early. Parisian had a bloody nose within a minute of the fight. They clinched up against the fence and Parisian landed a good combo that stunned Porter, who recovered. It was a fast pace for heavyweights. Porter rocked Parisian with a right hand. Parisian landed a spinning back fist. They clinched and Parisian fell down while Porter went for a guillotine choke, but let it go in favor of strikes. Parisian got to his feet and ate some shots. Parisian was pretty tired at this point. Porter got another takedown and rained down more strikes in the second round. Both guys were pretty tired come the third round, but they exchanged to the bell. The judges gave the win to Porter.
Bill Algeo vs. Spike Carlyle
Carlyle came out aggressive as he threw some hands before getting a takedown with two minutes left in the first round. Algeo got back to his feet and Carlyle stayed on his back. Carlyle went for a bulldog choke, but Algeo got out of it. Algeo scrambled and got on top. The second round saw Algeo get on top on the ground and worked him over with strikes while in back mount. As the round went on, Algeo tried to get a rear-naked choke, but couldn’t get it locked in. Carlyle’s momentum ended in the second round and he was pretty tired. The third round saw them clinch then Carlyle got a takedown, but Algeo took the attack and Carlyle got back to his feet. Algeo landed a nice elbow in the clinch then they fired away to end the fight. The judges gave the win to Algeo.
Norma Dumont vs. Ashlee Evans-Smith
They spent the first round striking. The announcers brought up Smith dealing with an undisclosed injury and speculated her dealing with a potential shoulder or knee injury. Smith had a cut on the bridge of her nose. Dumont got a takedown at the end of the round. Dumont got an early takedown to open the second round. Smith got to her feet only to be taken down again. Smith got back to her feet only to eat a flurry of strikes. Dumont stunted her with a combo up against the fence then got a takedown to end the third round. Norma got the win.
Jonathan Pearce vs. Kai Kamaka
Pearce pulled guard midway through the first round only to get back up to his feet. Pearce entertained a single leg takedown, but let go of it. Clearly, he wanted to get the fight to the ground. He did score a takedown with a minute to go. Kai got back to his feet. They came out in the second round swinging, which opened up Kai and allowed Pearce to get a takedown. Pearce landed a big right hand then got his back where he landed some follow up shots. Kai scrambled and got on top. Kai went for a guillotine choke, but Pearce got out and back on top. Pearce landed more shots until the referee waved it off.
