UFC Fight Night 125: Machida vs. Anders Results From Belém

The Octagon returns to Brazil this evening, as UFC touches down in Belém for their UFC Fight Night 125: Machida vs. Anders event from Arena Guilherme Paranese.

Tonight’s card features proven Brazilian legend Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida taking on undefeated prospect Eryk Anders in the main event, as well as the UFC Women’s Flyweight debut of former Bantamweight Championship contender Valentina Shevchenko.

John Dodson vs. Pedro Munhoz was the originally scheduled co-main event for tonight’s show, however after Munhoz failed to make weight on Friday, the fight was cancelled 24-hours before show time.

Tonight’s event kicks off with a one fight preliminary card on UFC Fight Pass at 7:30pm EST. and continues into the FS2 preliminary card at 8pm EST., which features a four-fight card. From there, the action switches over to FS1 for the six-fight main card that kicks off at 10pm EST.

UFC Fight Night 125 Main Card (FS1)

Thiago Santos vs. Anthony Smith

Round 1: Fans chant “You’re gonna die!” at Anthony Smith as the first round begins. Santos opens up with a leg kick and a middle kick. Santos stumbles as Smith presses forward. Santos with a body kick. Santos lands a big spinning kick but in a scramble, Smith ends up on top of Santos on the ground. Crowd popped big for that kick. Crowd boos as we have a lull in the action as Smith recovers on the ground. Santos sweeps Smith and now he’s on top as the “You’re Gonna Die!” chants pick back up. Santos working inside Smith’s full guard as he has Smith stuck against the cage wall. Santos landing some nice ground and pound as we’re half way through the opening frame. We spend a full minute with no real action, so the referee warns the fighters to pick up the pace. Smith gets his hips back and gets an underhook, as he looks to return the fight to the feet. Smith grabs a single leg and uses it to get up. Santos immediately blasts Smith with a big punch that drops a wobbled Smith. Santos jumps on Smith to capitalize and we see Santos himself is cut pretty bad. 30 seconds left in the round as Santos is still hammering away looking for a finish. The “You’re Gonna Die!” chants fill the arena in Belem. Santos with a solid knee to the body. He stands up and lands some punches as the horn sounds to end an exciting first round. Round 2: Santos’ cut above his left eye doesn’t appear to be a problem yet. Both guys exchange some kicks. Santos hurts Smith badly with a body kick. He comes in like a ball of fire with punches from all over the place. Smith isn’t able to recover from the body shot and is forced to eat the punches until the referee saw enough. Thiago Santos wins by TKO in the second.

Marlon Vera vs. Douglas Silva

Round 1: Silva comes out swinging as soon as they touch gloves. Both guys feeling each other out now. Vera with a nice punch that is partially blocked, followed by a middle kick. Silva answers back with one of his own. Vera misses with a wild overhand right. Silva presses forward with some wild punches that miss the mark. Vera catches a Silva kick attempt but the two separate. Nice leg kick from Vera. Silva with a wild punch attempt as we reach the half-way point of the opening frame. Silva with a wild right hand again but this time it landed pretty flush. Vera takes it well. Inside leg kick from Silva. Wild overhand right from Silva just misses. One minute left in the round. Vera with some wild lunging punches of his own. Nice middle kick from Vera. Nice 1-2 from Vera. Silva with a takedown but Vera pops right back to his feet. He locks in a Kimura to keep himself standing but Silva with a suplex-style takedown to close out the round. MMANews.com scores the round 10-9 for Douglas Silva.

Round 2: Nice leg kick from Vera early in the second. Silva misses with a haymaker overhand right. Vera slips on a kick attempt leading to a fun exchange. Nothing of significance lands for either guy, however. Silva with a big left hook. Nice body kick from Vera. Vera with a cut over his right eye. The crowd chants “You’re Gonna Die!” Vera hurt by something. He looks for a timeout but Silva gives him anything but that. The referee lets it continue. Silva slows down now and Vera lands a nice left middle kick. We’re half way through round two. Silva pressing the action now as Vera tries avoiding an onslaught with his back mostly against the cage. The announcers inform us that it was a punch and not an eye poke that started that last chaotic sequence. The action slows down now as both guys catch their breath. Silva lands a nice one-two and the blood starts to poor from Vera’s cut now. Nice one-two again from Silva. Nice jab and kick from Vera. Vera with a flying knee attempt that misses. Silva with a spinning back-fist that just misses. Nice uppercut from Silva. Roundhouse kick attempt from Silva misses. Fun action in round two. Silva lands flush with a nice punch. Vera still very much in the fight. Silva pressing forward hard again with punches and knees in the Thai clinch. Silva catches Vera with a big right hand. Round 3: Vera’s corner sounded desparate in between rounds. They know they need a finish if they want a win. Vera comes out determined early in the third. The fans in Belem have a wave going in the audience right now. Thunderous “You’re Gonna Die!” chants break out as both guys are picking up the pace. Both guys land simaltaneous jabs. Silva with a big punch that Vera partially blocks. Silva lands a big shot that gets the crowd on their feet briefly. And again. Vera using a side-kick to keep Silva off of him, but it’s not working very well. Silva comes in and out whenever he wants to. Silva misses with a spinning back-fist while backing up. Vera trying to do what he can but he’s not having much luck. Vera’s corner is screaming at him to let his hands go. He’s not obliging thus far, mainly because Silva isn’t allowing it. Vera flips off Silva as we reach the final minute of the final frame. Vera swinging wildly now, but not landing anything clean. Nice body shot from Silva. Silva with a big spinning back-fist attempt. Timothy Johnson vs. Marcelo Golm

Round 1: Undefeated prospect Marcelo Golm is getting the star treatment on commentary. He looks to help Brazilians go 8-0 tonight as he meets Timothy Johnson in Heavyweight action. The first round is now underway. Both guys are slow coming out early. Johnson presses Golm against the fence in the clinch. Golm circles out. They finally separate from the clinch at the half-way point of the first round. Johnson clinches and pushes Golm against the cage again. Very slow fight so far. Golm hits Johnson with something that opens up a bad cut on the right eye of Johnson. Body kick from Golm. Nice inside leg kick from Golm that seemed to bother Johnson. Johnson clinches with Golm again. He pushes him against the cage. 30 seconds remain in the round. Johnson for a takedown attempt but Golm defends. The round ends in a clinch against the cage. Round 2: Replays between rounds show a clash of heads caused the cut above the right eye of Johnson in the first round. Johnson with some real wild punches to start off the second round. Wild exchange from both guys. Johnson seemed to catch Golm with a good one. Golm lands a good one as well. Golm lands some good elbows, ala Browne-Barnett, that woke the crowd up briefly. Golm has Johnson clinched against the cage. The two separate. Nice body kick by Golm. Johnson clinches with Golm. The announcers point out another accidental clash of heads as we’re clinched against the cage again. Both guys land decent shots in another brief punching exchange. Johnson clinches with Golm again and pushes him against the cage. Crowd boos as we spend a minute in the clinch against the cage. Referee avoids a kick while checking closely on the (non)-action. The crowd is chanting something that sounds unflattering, although I don’t speak Portuguese. We’re still in the clinch against the cage. We separate with just over 40 seconds left in the round. Johnson and Golm clash heads again. Nice knee by Johnson before we clinch against the cage again. Spinning back-elbow attempt from Johnson. Spinning back-kick attempt misses for Johnson. Round 3: Third and final round begins with a brief showing of respect between these two big boys. Golm with a body kick. Johnson swinging his way closer to Golm, but doesn’t land anything. Golm with a nice inside kick. Johnson with some dirty boxing. Big punches land for Johnson. Johnson grabs a leg and looks for a takedown. He holds on and keeps Golm against the cage now as we reach the half-way point of the final frame. We’re stuck here for another solid minute again, as next to nothing happens. This time the referee stops the action and restarts the fighters. Nice knee from the Thai clinch from Golm. Nice jab from Johnson. Johnson turns on the heat, pressing forward with some punches to close the distance. He clinches with Golm against the cage. One minute left in the fight. Johnson nearly takes Golm down, but doesn’t finish it. Golm tries to separate from Johnson. He wings a wild knee that misses, but gets him the distance he wanted. Michel Prazeres vs. Desmond Green

Round 1: Our next fight is now underway. Crowd solidly behind the hometown boy Prazeres. Prazeres opens up with some stiff body kicks on Green. The crowd is chanting something loudly. Nice leg kick from Green. Prazeres catches a Green kick attempt for a takedown attempt, but Green defends well. Green takes Prazeres down and immediately starts looking to take his back. Prazeres goes for a switch but Green defends. Pazeres now manages to get back to his feet in a scramble. Green circles around and now he has Prazeres against the cage in a clinch. We’re half way through the round. Prazeres wings some bombs at Green and then switches levels for a takedown. He gets it. Prazeres is now hammer-fisting Green but the referee wanrs him for hitting in the back of the head. Prazeres keeps punching so Marc Goddard stops the action and stands both guys up. He lectures Prazeres and tells him he’s taking the position away from him for not listening. The fight restarts on the feet. The crowd chants something very loudly as we have one minute remaining in the round. Prazeres takes Green down again, but Green immediately pops back to his feet. Green takes Prazeres down and now Prazeres gets right back to his feet. Trip attempt from Prazeres and the two end up on the ground with Green on top. The round will end here. Close round. Round 2: Slow start to the second round. Prazeres lands a decent punch at about 30 seconds into the round. Green takes Prazeres down and gets top control. Green working from inside Prazeres’ full guard. Prazeres keeping his guard open and keeping his hips busy. Prazeres gets some space and kicks off to return to his feet. Green ducks a wild punch from Prazeres, changes levels and looks for a takedown. Prazeres is defending well. We’re stuck in a clinch against the cage as the crowd starts to boo. Prazeres wakes up and tries creating some distance but Green is staying on him. Prazeres takes Green down. He passes Green’s guard and is in full mount. Green gives up his back. Prazeres looking for an arm-triangle. He changes sides but Green scrambles back to his feet. Nice. 90 seconds left in the round. Prazeres pulls guard in a guillotine attempt. Green defends well. Prazeres lets it go and settles for top position on the ground with one minute remaining. The crowd chants “You’re Gonna Die!” Prazeres in side mount now. Prazeres looking for a north-south choke. Round 3: Scores could be close coming into the third. Announcers are talking like Prazeres is comfortably ahead, for whatever that is worth, and of course, they are in Prazeres’ hometown tonight. Green with a wild swing that misses. We’re a minute deep into the round and there’s not much action to speak of thus far. The pace is slow here in the third. Prazeres’ tough weight cut may be showing its’ affect. 90 seconds left in an uneventful third round. Prazeres scores a big takedown and passes quickly to mount. Green is looking to turn his back and Prazeres is looking to maintain top control. Referee warns Prazeres twice again about punches to the back of Green’s head. Valentina Shevchenko vs. Priscila Cachoeira

Round 1: The two touch gloves and our co-main event is underway. Shevchenko is a big favorite debuting in a new weight class against the undefeated prospect. Shevchenko rocks Cachoeira with some good punches. Cachoeira lands a decent right hand of her own. Shevchenko takes Cachoeira down. Big elbow from Shevchenko from inside Cachoeira’s guard. Shevchenko lands several more, opening up a cut on Cachoeira. Cachoeira stuck against the cage now as Shevchenko continues to hammer away. Cachoeira is a bloody mess now. This is getting tough to watch. Shevchenko finishes the round landing elbows and punches at will. Brutal round. MMANews.com scores the round 10-8 for Valentina Shevchenko.

Round 2: Cachoeira still looks determined coming out in the second. Shevchenko with an inside trip and Cachoeira is immediately taken down. Shevchenko traps Cachoeira’s arm and is landing elbows. She’s looking for a keylock now. Cachoeira is trying to hang in there. Shevchenko traps the arm again and is firing away with her free hand at the open face of Cachoeira. Shevchenko lets off the gas a bit and the crowd starts to boo as the action slows down. 90 seconds left in the round. Shevchenko stacks up and is firing away with punches. Cachoeira gives up her back. Shevchenko flattens her out and punches away. Cachoeira again turns to her side and is not giving up. Shevchenko is blasting away and now she locks in a rear naked choke. Cachoeira tries defending but ends up tapping.

Lyoto Machida vs. Eryk Anders

Round 1: Machida comes into his hometown a 2-to-1 underdog against undefeated up-and-comer Eryk Anders. The two touch gloves and the first round of our main event is now officially underway. Sharp leg kick from Machida. Machida cuts Anders leg out from under him with a leg kick and jumps in on top of him. Machida is working from inside Anders’ full guard on the ground. Machida stands up and out of Anders’ guard. Anders lays on his back as Machida stands over him. Machida chopping away at Anders’ legs now. Ali-Inoki 2 is breaking out here in Belem. Marc Goddard thinks about standing Anders up. Machida leaps in with a punch but Anders scrambles back to his feet. 90 seconds left in the round. Machida circling on the outside a lot while Anders stalks him and stares him down. Not a lot of action on the feet. MMANews.com scores the round 10-9 for Lyoto Machida.

Round 2: Both guys trade kicks to start off the second round. Machida lands a nice low kick. Anders lands a nice left hand that silences Machida’s hometown crowd briefly. Now the fans rally behind Machida while Anders holds him against the cage. Inside leg kick and some pawing right hands from Machida finds their mark. Machida is back on his bicycle, circling the outter rim of the Octagon while Anders tries to work his way inside. Machida with a flying knee to the body of Anders that partially lands. Inside leg kick from Machida. Big left hand from Anders misses. Chopping leg kick from Machida lands solidly. Anders lands a big punch in the closing seconds of the second round. Round 3: Machida with a leg kick to literally kick off the third round. Solid body kick from Machida is caught by Anders. Anders takes Machida to the ground. Machida uses the cage to get back to his feet. Machida was cut during that last scramble. Blood is immediately free-flowing from his nose all over his face. He’s bleeding pretty good now. The announcers inform us that it was a knee from Anders that caused the bloody nose of Machida, which has been the highlight of this fight so far. Machida is wiping a lot at his face now as the blood seems to be bothering him a bit. Machida with a nice left hand that is partially blocked by Anders. Anders misses with a wild punch. 90 seconds left in the round. Machida lunges in with a nice left hand. Nice jab from Machida. Anders catches Machida off-balance with a big punch. Anders looking to take Machida down off the cage. Close round but the blood may have been enough of a factor for the judges to give it to Anders. MMANews.com scores the round 10-9 for Eryk Anders.

Round 4: Both guys swing wildly early in the fourth. Machida with a big middle kick that lands flush. Machida with a knee. Anders blocks another solid body kick from Machida. Anders swings very wildly trying to catch Machida, but has no luck. Anders gets Machida down to the mat while catching him off balance. Machida uses the cage to get back to his feet. Machida looks up at the clock now as the blood flows from his face again. Two minutes left in the round as we’re stuck in a clinch against the cage. The two finally separate. Anders works for a while and finally takes Machida down. Machida uses the cage to get right back up but Anders stays on him. 30 seconds left in the round. Round 5: This feels like Machida is winning, but it very well could be 2-2 heading into this fifth and final round. We have it even on our unofficial scorecard at this point, so this round could tell the story of the fight. Machida fires a big body kick to start off the final frame. Nice leg kick from Machida. Machida misses with a head kick attempt. Anders misses with a wild swing. Nice body kick from Machida. Machida misses with another body kick and Anders partially lands with a big left hand. We’re half way through the final round and this fight could very well be up in the air on the cards at this point. Big knee to the body definitely got Anders’ attention. He might be poker-facing it right now. Nice body kick again from Machida. Spinning back-kick from Machida partially lands. Anders gets Machida down. That was a big takedown but Machida popped right back up and separates from Anders. The ten second ticker hits. Anders comes in wildly looking for a knockout. He doesn’t get it.
