BKFC Discontinues Flyweight Division

In a move that UFC fans came close to experiencing years ago, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship has announced the dissolution of its flyweight division.

BKFC CEO David Feldman announced the move in an interview with Jake Noecker on October 16, one night before BKFC 95 in New Jersey.

“Just don’t have enough competition to have a full division and keep the guys busy as we want,” Feldman said. “It’s hard to find a lot of quality fighters at 125 in any sport, but especially in bare knuckle.”

Feldman said he still had to inform BKFC flyweight champion John Dodson of the situation. Dodson is scheduled to challenge BKFC bantamweight champion Jamel Herring in the main event of BKFC 95.

Feldman stated that should Dodson win the fight, he will be the BKFC bantamweight champion and honored as a champ-champ in the bare-knuckle promotion. BKFC would then take the 125-pound title from Dodson.

Dodson became the inaugural, and now only, undisputed BKFC flyweight champion with a win over JR Ridge at BKFC 48. He defended the title in a draw with Dagoberto Aguero at BKFC 59.

Andrew Strode became interim champion at BKFC 78.
