Canelo Alvarez finally has a new date for his return, and the Mexican superstar will now put his bid to reclaim the super middleweight throne on the line against Christian Mbilli on Halloween night.
The long-awaited matchup is officially set for October 31 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with Mbilli’s WBC super middleweight championship on the line.
Turki Alalshikh announced the news Tuesday, with the event carrying the “Mexico vs. The World” billing and set to headline a Ring card available on DAZN PPV.
Canelo Alvarez And Christian Mbilli Finally Get New Fight Date
Alvarez and Mbilli were originally scheduled to meet on September 12, but the bout was postponed after a family matter prevented Alvarez from beginning his training camp as planned.
The new date gives Alvarez the opportunity to return to the ring roughly a year after his most recent appearance. The 36-year-old suffered a unanimous decision defeat against Terence Crawford in September 2025, with Crawford becoming the undisputed super middleweight champion in the process.
Crawford subsequently retired in December, opening the door for Mbilli to inherit the full WBC title after previously holding interim gold.
Mbilli, 31, enters the fight with an unbeaten 29-0-1 record and 24 knockouts. The Canadian-based Cameroonian last fought on the Alvarez-Crawford undercard, battling Lester Martinez to a split draw over 10 rounds.
Before that result, Mbilli captured the interim WBC super middleweight championship by stopping Maciej Sulecki in the opening round in June 2025.
