Chuck Liddell has no patience for fighters who hold their way to wins.
The UFC Hall of Famer did a livestream with streamer N3on the morning after UFC 331 and took fan questions. Asked whether there was a current fighter he does not enjoy watching, Liddell went after a style instead of a name.
I don’t like the guys who try to wrestle and hold. They’re not trying to finish. I’ve got nothing against wrestling. I like wrestling.
He made the distinction clear. Wrestling that leads to damage is fine by him.
But the guys that are just sitting there trying to win by just holding a guy [I don’t like it].
Liddell did not put all the blame on the top fighter.
It’s the guy on the bottom’s fault for not getting better at getting up, too, right? He’s kind of causing some of the problems.
The former light heavyweight champion built his career on the opposite approach. Known as “The Iceman,” Liddell was a wrestler who used his takedown defense to keep fights standing and hunt for knockouts. He retired in 2010 and briefly returned in 2018.
