Conor McGregor criticizes Justin Gaethje, Calls Him An ‘OK’ Fighter

ByAndrew RavensMixed Martial Arts Journalist

Conor McGregor says he considers himself a 170-pound fighter and has his sights on staying active at welterweight following his UFC 329 return against Max Holloway, while dismissing Justin Gaethje as a potential lightweight title target.

McGregor spoke to Paramount ahead of his July 11 return.

Max has flatlined Justin. He knocked him out. Face down. Out cold. Justin’s OK. When he’s on, Justin’s OK. When he’s bad, he’s atrocious. He’s woeful. He slaps his punches a lot. But he’s very, very durable and he’s unorthodox in his style.

He made clear that welterweight is his home going forward rather than a return to 155.

For sure I can make a run at the title. I’m a 170-pound fighter now. I already held the 155-pound unified UFC world title. I’m open for business. I wish for activity. I’ve got a great fight in front of me.

On potential future opponents, McGregor kept it vague while promising his actions will speak louder than words.

There’s a few names for sure. I have just more so activity. I wish to just compete. I want the smoke. I want all the smoke. Rather than saying it and getting into more detail on it, I would rather just show. That I will do.

McGregor has two fights remaining on his UFC contract, with his next bout after Holloway tentatively slated for April 2027 — a timeline he has suggested he wants to compress.

Conor McGregor reveals he has 'hit list' of fighters he wants to face: 'I want ALL the smoke!' 😤
