Dakota Ditcheva felt both hands go early in the second round against Denise Kielholtz and told nobody until the fight was over.
The unbeaten flyweight revealed the injuries in a video on her own YouTube channel, saying she kept it from her corner and did not show it during the bout. The only person she told was her cutman, and only in a whisper.
Ditcheva swept the scorecards against Kielholtz in the PFL New York co-main event on July 31 at UBS Arena, moving to 16-0 overall and 11-0 in the promotion. It was her first fight in more than a year.
The layoff was caused by the same problem. She broke her hands against Sumiko Inaba in July 2025, and a further hand injury pulled her out of a scheduled Kielholtz meeting at PFL Dubai in February before the fight was rebooked.
Her framing of it is unusually blunt. There are no new breaks, because the hand that gave way is the one she chose not to have operated on last year. She was told at the time that skipping surgery risked exactly this, took the risk hoping it would hold, and it did not.
She is back in splints while her surgeon decides on next steps. Ditcheva also suggested the injury may explain why she got no post-fight interview in New York, an absence that had been noticed at the time.
A meeting with Liz Carmouche for the vacant flyweight title had been the expected next move. That is now open-ended.
