Dana White says he has five potential scenarios in mind for Conor McGregor if he beats Max Holloway at UFC 329, and compared a successful comeback after a five-year absence to something that has never been accomplished in combat sports history.
White spoke to The Mac Life ahead of Saturday’s main event.
Anything is possible if he wins on Saturday night. Whoever wins on Saturday night it’s a big win and a big step up in their careers, especially at this point in time. These are two guys that have done it all. I’ve got like five scenarios in my head if Conor wins, and I’ve got like three for Max if Max wins. So, it’s huge for both of them. The thing that I love about the sport is, like, who saw the White House coming? That that would happen? I didn’t see this fight coming. Last year I was telling you guys I think he’ll fight this year and he didn’t, so then I was thinking he wouldn’t fight. It’s what keeps this thing fun.
White also put McGregor’s potential comeback in historical context.
It says everything about him. When you think about it, throughout the history of fighting, tell me somebody who came back after this big of a layoff. I mean Ali took three years and he wasn’t the same when he came back, and I think these are the kind of challenges that a guy like McGregor likes. If he wins on Saturday night, he will do something that nobody has ever done in any combat sport after such a layoff.
McGregor made a “triple crown” comment this week referencing a potential pursuit of a third UFC title at welterweight.
