Gable Steveson is already chasing his next fight, and he wants a big stage for it.
The Olympic gold medalist smashed Elisha Ellison in the first round of his UFC debut at UFC 329, with mentor Jon Jones in his corner. Minutes later, he was talking about November and Madison Square Garden.
Today I’m going to enjoy the moment. Tomorrow I’m going to go home and enjoy it with my family. Monday I go back to work. But I think MSG is in November. MSG would be amazing, to go out there in Madison Square Garden.
The MSG dream ties back to Jones, whose biggest moments have come at the Garden. Steveson wants to add his own, and he says his mentor is sharpening a wrestler who came to strike.
They’re training Gable Steveson to fight like Gable Steveson. I’ve got great mentors in my corner. With the athleticism that I have, I can pull off a lot of things that Jon did.
One first-round finish in, Steveson clearly wants to move fast in a heavyweight division starved for fresh blood.
