Josh Hokit has posted a scouting report on UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, calling him “too offensive minded” and arguing that his elite athleticism becomes a weakness against the right opponent.
Hokit shared the assessment on X.
He’s too offensive minded. That makes things exciting until a proper athlete is able to compete with his athleticism. His strength is also his weakness.
Hokit, 28, is on a four-fight winning streak following his second-round knockout of Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250, which moved him to number five in the heavyweight rankings. His hand speed and wrestling background give credibility to the athletic comparison he is drawing with Aspinall.
Aspinall remains sidelined with eye injuries sustained during his October fight against Ciryl Gane, which ended in a no-contest. Gane, who subsequently won the interim title by knocking out Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250, has pushed for a unification fight in Paris in September — a plan Aspinall has expressed support for. Any path to the title for Hokit likely runs through that matchup resolving first.
Hokit has previously signaled that his next fight is nearly finalized and has publicly campaigned for a fight with Pereira following their UFC Freedom 250 fight week back-and-forth.
