Liz Carmouche Pieces Up Viviane Araujo Before Submission Win

ByThomas AlbanoMixed Martial Arts Journalist

Liz Carmouche continues to keep her place as one of the best women’s flyweight combatants in the world, scoring a submission win over Viviane Araujo in the co-main event of PFL San Diego.

Carmouche put her takedown defense on display in the first round, while working over Araujo with her leg kicks and combinations. Carmouche then scored a takedown of her own, but the bell quickly sounded to end the round.

Carmouche continued to pick apart Araujo on the feet in round two. Araujo then went in for a takedown, only to get caught in a guillotine by Carmouche and forced to submit.

Carmouche, the former Bellator champion and UFC title challenger, defeated Ilara Joanne, Elora Dana, and Jena Bishop last year to win the 2025 PFL Women’s Flyweight World Tournament.

With the win, Carmouche likely could fight with Dakota Ditcheva, if Ditcheva wins her fight at PFL Long Island next month, to determine the PFL women’s flyweight world champion.

Araujo, also a UFC veteran, made her PFL debut at PFL Chicago in April, defeating Shanna Young.
