Max Holloway called fighting Conor McGregor a “beautiful” payday while maintaining full confidence in his ability to beat the returning Irish star at UFC 329 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Holloway spoke at the UFC 329 pre-fight news conference, acknowledging the financial reality of the main event while keeping the focus on the competitive challenge.
It’s beautiful. It’s a beautiful payday. And I’m the baddest man on the planet. So there we go.
Holloway, 27-9, is competing at welterweight for the first time in his career. To help with the transition to 170 pounds, he brought in former UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena for a week-long training block during camp.
Holloway enters as the betting favorite despite McGregor’s return after five years away. He is coming off a loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March, which cost him the BMF title. His most recent win was a stoppage of Dustin Poirier in Poirier’s retirement fight at UFC 318.
