The MMA world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of UFC flyweight Allan Nascimento, who has passed away at the age of 34.
The UFC confirmed on Monday that the Brazilian was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, Nascimento was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This morning, Monday, August 3rd, our beloved flyweight fighter, Allan Nascimento, was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep,” the promotion said in a statement.
“Despite the efforts of the responding medical team, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Allan’s family, friends, teammates, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
‘”Puro Osso” compiled a professional record of 22-7, including a 4-2 run inside the UFC. After dropping a razor-close split decision to Tagir Ulanbekov in his promotional debut, he rebounded with victories over Jake Hadley, Carlos Hernandez, Jafel Filho, and Cody Durden. His submission wins over Hernandez, and Durden also earned him two Performance of the Night bonuses.
Nascimento last competed in June, when he suffered a split-decision loss to Mitch Raposo.
Outside the Octagon, the São Paulo native was a longtime member of Chute Boxe Diego Lima and a close friend and training partner of former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. His passing is a devastating loss for the MMA community, with tributes expected to pour in from across the sport.
