Paddy Pimblett thinks Gable Steveson will come back looking for the mat.
Steveson was knocked out by Sean Sharaf in 12 seconds at UFC 331 in Los Angeles on Saturday, the first loss of his professional career. Pimblett watched it live and broke it down on his YouTube channel.
Oh my God. Oh my God. Wow. That’s heavyweight for you, lad. It’s heavyweight for you. Left hook [and] finish.
He was struck by how much money was on the line for anyone who backed Sharaf.
What odds was he, lad? So, if you would have put $100 on him by knockout, you would have won about $2,000 back.
Then came his read on what happens next.
Oh, lad. He went down as well. That was a bad knockout right on the chin. Wow. He did show us last fight. He was hittable. Surely, he’s getting a bonus for that. Like that’s the thing with heavyweight, lad. One shot. I think in Gable’s next fight, he’ll come out and shoot a takedown immediately.
Pimblett had already flagged concerns about Steveson’s striking. He shared a card with him at UFC 329 in July, where Steveson stopped Elisha Ellison on his debut.
Gable Stevenson could be a future champ. He’s got the wrestling pedigree for it. His last fight on my card was a little bit sloppy, but he [came] out and got the TKO finish. That’s all that matters.
Steveson is 26 and now 4-1.
