Ronda Rousey was asked directly whether she would return for another MVP MMA event, and she declined to answer in either direction.
In an interview with Marisa for The Fight Culture, Rousey was pressed on her future with the promotion following her May win over Gina Carano, with the interviewer also raising the possibility of Nate Diaz featuring on a future card. Rousey said the people behind the first show are still catching their breath.
We’ll see. We need to kind of reconvene and see what the future looks like at this point,” Rousey said. “I think everyone is just kind of decompressing and getting back to post-that-huge-event fight life.
That is a softer answer than the one she gave in the immediate aftermath of the Carano fight, when she framed the bout as a one-off and said Carano was the only person who could have brought her back.
She has also previously said she has no interest in fighting again, even while insisting she would beat Holly Holm in a rematch.
Rousey submitted Carano by armbar in 17 seconds at the Intuit Dome on May 16, headlining the first MMA card promoted by Most Valuable Promotions and the first streamed live on Netflix.
Her Advice For The Promotion
Whether or not she competes again, Rousey had a clear opinion about how MVP MMA should build from here: keep the events rare and keep them big.
She argued that too many MMA cards now pass without registering, because fans are handed another one almost every weekend. Rousey described that kind of programming as background noise, drawing a contrast with the event-scale approach that made her Carano fight land.
She also suggested Diaz would help hold that standard if he became a regular fixture on the promotion’s cards.
MVP has not announced its next MMA event.
