Dana White thought no production team could botch celebrity shots worse than the UFC’s. The World Cup proved him wrong.
White has ripped his own crew before for misidentifying famous faces at the cage, most infamously mixing up boxing star Terence Crawford with Kendrick Lamar, and more recently tagging Shakur Stevenson as the Thunder’s Jalen Williams. So when he sat down to watch Sunday’s World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, he was rooting for the broadcast to show him up. It did not go well. The BBC feed labeled Pharrell Williams as A$AP Rocky, and at one point called him “AKA Rocky.”
White, who had actually defended the World Cup’s team against his own staff, conceded defeat on his Instagram Story.
I actually teed up the guys who are doing the production… for you guys to hit a grand slam home run. Even though everybody in my team was arguing with me saying that you are the worst, I said, ‘No, we are the worst – they didn’t —- it up as bad as we did.'
Then the punchline landed, and White surrendered the title.
And what do you guys do? You triple down today… ‘F— you Dana White, you’re not beating us. We’re the worst production team in the history of sports to ever show celebrities.’ I bow down. Congratulations to the producers of the World Cup. … You guys absolutely —- suck. We are the second worst.
