Making his UFC debut on just two days' notice, Ethyn Ewing pulled off a highlight performance, ending the undefeated record of the highly-touted Malcolm Wellmaker during the UFC 322 preliminary card.
Wellmaker seemed to get the better of Ewing early on, working him over with the striking that brought him to top prospect status. But Ewing did damage of his own in the clinch late in the round, seemingly turning the momentum in his favor.
Wellmaker performed better in the second round, focused on the body attack. Ewing, however, did not deter and countered with his own moments, including some late knees in the clinch. Ewing then used his boxing and takedowns in the final frame to come away with the victory.

Ewing has now won nine straight since dropping his first two professional MMA bouts. Just last week, he scored a first-round finish over Bill Brand to capture the A1C interim bantamweight title.
Wellmaker won a contract on Dana White's Contender Series last year. His two other UFC bouts this year saw him earn first-round finishes of Cameron Saiiman and Kris Moutinho, earning performance bonuses for both.
