UFC Surprisingly Dumps Undefeated 16-0 Star Despite Perfect 7-0 Octagon Run

The UFC has parted ways with an undefeated bantamweight despite his flawless record inside the Octagon, bringing an unexpected end to a seven-fight run that saw him climb into the division’s rankings.

Farid Basharat, who holds a perfect 16-0 professional MMA record, is now a free agent after the promotion reportedly opted against offering him a new contract.

According to MMA Fighting, the 29-year-old completed his previous deal with a unanimous decision victory over John Garza at UFC 329 in July, but a new agreement did not follow.

UFC Parts Ways With Undefeated Farid Basharat

Basharat leaves the promotion without suffering a single defeat in seven UFC appearances. Since earning his contract through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, the Afghan-born fighter has built an impressive résumé with victories over Jean Matsumoto, Chris Gutierrez, Taylor Lapilus, and Garza.

His consistency earned him a place among the UFC’s top 15 bantamweights, making the decision not to renew his contract particularly surprising. However, the promotion’s decision does not prevent Basharat from continuing his career elsewhere, and he is free to negotiate with other organizations.

“Ferocious” had reportedly hoped to remain with the UFC, but the promotion has chosen not to extend his stay for now. A return remains possible if both sides reach an agreement in the future.

Could Farid Basharat Join His Brother In The PFL?

Basharat’s departure also mirrors the situation involving his older brother, Javid Basharat, who was released by the UFC after a victory and subsequently signed with the PFL.

The brothers could potentially end up competing under the same banner, although no deal for Farid has been announced. The PFL would offer a possible next destination for the unbeaten contender as he looks to build on his perfect record.
