Umar Nurmagomedov’s team has broken its silence hours after his second round knockout loss to Song Yadong in the UFC Shanghai main event.
In a statement released by Nurmagomedov’s team, they addressed the result directly:
“The result cannot be changed today the opponent won. Everything happened according to the will of the Almighty, and there is wisdom in that.
Alhamdulillah in any situation: we accept what is prescribed, draw conclusions and continue to work.”
Nurmagomedov, ranked No. 3 in the bantamweight division, was finished at 1:48 of round two after Song caught him with a hook as he shot for a takedown. It’s the second loss of Nurmagomedov’s professional career and came after he dominated the opening round on the feet and on the mat.
Song, ranked No. 6 heading into the bout, called for a title shot in his post-fight interview inside the Octagon, positioning himself as the next challenger for the bantamweight belt.
