Dana White suggested there’s more to Farid Basharat’s UFC exit than his record shows.
The UFC did not re-sign Basharat despite a 16-0 record and a 7-0 run in the promotion. White was asked about it after UFC Edmonton on Saturday.
Yeah, I think that when guys’ contracts are up, I mean, this isn’t the first time this has happened. And either guys aren’t good to deal with, and the matchmakers don’t want to deal with them. Which could be turning down fights or whatever the reasoning is.
He then pointed to the record itself.
If you’re 16-0 with seven wins in the UFC and don’t get re-signed, there’s definitely a reason.
White did not say what that reason was.
Basharat confirmed his exit on social media earlier in the week. He said he was never offered a new contract or an opponent after his last fight. He also said he never turned down a fight in the UFC.
The bantamweight last fought at UFC 329 in July, beating John Garza by unanimous decision. His brother, Javid Basharat, was also not re-signed and has joined the PFL.
